Christensen House, which opened in September 1999, was developed to serve younger girls in a community setting.
The location of Christensen House is very convenient as it is close to schools, churches, playground, and other community resources.  Children are given access to psychiatric, psychological, and clinical social work personnel to fully address their emotional needs and maximize emotional growth potential.
Pre-placement interviews are conducted on each child referred to ensure an appropriate therapeutic fit and positive response to treatment.  Collaborative staffings are held on a monthly or bi-monthly basis for treatment planning to determine continued appropriateness of placement following observation and evaluation.
Residents typically have difficulties in school, with friends, and with their families and exhibit emotional and behavioral problems with sufficient academic strength to utilize a community setting.  While Christensen House is able to serve children with emotional and behavioral problems, it is not equipped to treat actively suicidal children, extremely aggressive, or psychotic children.
It is the mission of Christensen House to provide a structured treatment program for girls wherein they can grow and develop in an environment that is safe, accepting, nurturing, and supportive of positive self esteem and self image.  MTP's wrap around treatment approach utilizes a strongly structured, therapeutic milieu.  Every action, program, activity, reward, consequence, or contact involving a resident is evaluated in the therapeutic context.
This mission and philosophy is implemented through a unique program that addresses physical, sexual, behavioral, verbal, and emotional boundaries in a manner in which children can relate to and understand. The program is called "Boundary Exploration".   Residents are evaluated on a monthly basis as to behavior, knowledge, and emotional expression of appropriate
boundaries.
Given the activity level and therapeutic needs of these young girls, the staff to resident ratio while clients are awake is typically 1 staff to 5 residents.  This ensures that residents are highly supervised at all times of the day and night and that they receive the therapeutic attention necessary for growth.  All staff are thoroughly trained in philosophy, intervention, treatment, and evaluation.
