Porchlight Residence (PR), through professional staff, offers services to children and adolescents during crisis situations including safety, security, personal growth and encourages positive changes at a crucial point in their lives. It is at this crucial point that the staff at Porchlight Residence assess and evaluate each child's situation to gain an understanding of underlying causes of the current crisis.
PR provides safe, short-term, structured residential care as well as treatment services for children experiencing difficulty in their community, with their families, or in other placements. Prior to placement, many of these children are in an unsafe environment and are in need of protection and services.
PR offers 45-day internal assessment services. This evaluation assists caseworkers and parents in identifying needs of children and outlines recommendations to address those needs.
Children are placed by social services, court services, corrections, tribal authority, or law enforcement agents for a specific period of time. PR will not accept children who are homicidal, at high risk for suicide, psychotic, mentally ill or extremely violent and thus require secure detention or psychiatric hospitalization. Nor will we accept children who are under the influence of alcohol or other drugs and thus require detoxification.
Residents are highly supervised at all times of the day and night. All staff are well trained in crisis intervention/de-escalation, case management, emergency procedures, child and adolescent development, crisis counseling and behavior management. Counselors are carefully chosen and trained for their ability to manage crisis, their critical thinking and judgment skills. The facility is supervised by experienced Master's degree level clinicians/managers.
